The importance of modifying an IEP using communication and the parent input statement


POV: I got a call from a frustrated mom prior to an annual IEP meeting. Her son’s struggles are not being addressed.
Points Discussed: 1. Email to team that discusses previous IEP meeting: concerns discussed, changes to be made as a result. This would be the basis for the upcoming meeting. 2. Write a parent input statement to reinforce child’s strengths and desire for future goals. OUTCOME: IEP goal revision that aligned with parent input statement and addressed both strengths and weaknesses
